By Our Staff Reporter

PATHANAMTHITTA, OCT. 15. The Sabarimala Ayyappa Temple will be opened tomorrow afternoon for the monthly poojas. The rituals will begin with the Usha pooja on Tuesday morning, the first day of the Malayalam month of Thulam.

The Tantri, Sri Kantaru Rajeevaru, has said that the draw of lots to select the new Melsanthi for the Ayyappa shrine for the next one-year term from the ensuing Mandalam season would be held at the Sannidhanam after the Usha pooja on Tuesday. The draw of lots to select the new Melsanthi for the Malikappuram Devi Temple too would be held later on the same day. The TDB had already short-listed five priests after an interview for the one-year Purappedasanthi post at Sabarimala a month ago.

A Laksharchana would be held at the Sannidhanam on October 19 and 20 and a Sahasra Kalasam would be performed on the deity on October 19, the Tantri said. An auspicious Kalabhabhishekom would be the speciality on October 21, the Tantri said.

The temple would be closed after the five-day monthly poojas on October 21 evening.

The temple would be reopened on October 25 evening, the Deepavali eve, for the day-long Chithira Attathirunal celebrations. The Attathirunal would be celebrated at Sabarimala on October 26, the Tantri added.
