City DCC(I) polls not held

By Our Special Correspondent

BANGALORE, OCT. 15. As was expected, organisational elections did not take place in the Bangalore City District Congress(I) Committee scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.

The party's State Election Authority had fixed the organisational elections for the Bangalore North Parliamentary Constituency for Saturday and those in the Bangalore South Parliamentary Constituency for Sunday.

According to the party sources, except in the block Congress(I) committees coming under the Uttarahalli Assembly Constituency, elections were not held in respect of the 11 other Assembly constituencies comprising the two Parliamentary constituencies.

Of the eight Assembly constituencies in Bangalore North, four come under the Bangalore Rural District Congress(I) Committee.

Instead of holding the elections, the assistant returning officers obtained unanimous resolutions authorising the AICC President, Ms. Sonia Gandhi, to nominate the 50 members to the Pradesh Congress(I) Committee and the 200 in the District Congress(I) Committee. There are 50 block Congress(I) committees in the unit.

The apprehension in the party is that as the elections were not held, the PCC and DCC membership in the two Parliamentary constituencies will be divided among others the party MP from Bangalore North, Mr. C.K.Jaffer Sharief, Mr. B.K.Hariprasad, who lost the Parliamentary election from Bangalore South, the party MLAs and also the defeated candidates in the Assembly elections.
