Knee-deep reportage
Sir, - PM's knee has got the media knee-deep in reportage. The
knee has usurped so much of leg space that there appears to be
little elbow room for reporting Uma Bharti's failed attempt to
bring to the ground the ``week''-kneed.
Then we are told that not only one of his knees but his other
niece (kins and such other impedimenta) too is in Mumbai. We are
further told that Mamata Di had offered only ``kneed-based''
temporary respite to the PM after which she may decide to keep
the BJP at arm's length.
However, it remains to be seen whether the post-operative PM
becomes ``knee-mble''-footed or retains his fiercely independent
foot-in-the-mouth rhetoric.
Anil Chandra,
New Delhi
Sir, - Though I am not a ``drummer-boy'' for you, I cannot help
agreeing with your comment in the Editorial ``A touch of the
absurd'' (The Hindu, Oct. 9) that ``one would expect Mr. Vajpayee
to stand up to such attempts at blackmail''.
Although, I am sure, Dr. Chittaranjan Ranawat and his men would
bring Mr. Vajpayee's knees back to normal, the PM should not
``kneel down'' before Ms. Mamata Banerjee and those like her.
P. G. Menon,
Chennai
