A feel of the wild West
IN THE heart of the city is a truly Western outback where
everyone is welcome. This Western leisure spot is truly Indian.
No marshals and sheriffs, no Apaches and angry squaws, baddies or
uglies. People do shoot, though, not from the hip, but straight
with the cue. One more addition to Chennai's funspot is Wild
West, a pool, snooker and billiards parlour at Spencer Plaza.
The parlour is designed with a western theme, transporting one
into the world of cowboys and girls. The 8,000 sq.ft. parlour
sports two large tables, two French medium tables, four pool
tables and believe it or not, one teeny-weeny pool table for
juniors as young as five or six years old. Rakes and country
guitars are placed prominently on the walls. Electric lanterns
hang from the ceiling, One wouldn't be surprised if Clint
Eastwood reached out for the cowboy hat, whips or ropes placed on
the walls. The lounge has an arid desert scene mural to complete
the picture. Still photographs from western movies adorn the
walls.
If you are looking for a Buffalo Bill kind of adventure at Wild
West, then forget it. The place is relaxing and fun. As the
evening wears on, office-goers, students, families and kids
saunter in to try their hand at the table. The joint is open from
10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays and weekends stretch on until 12
p.m. The 'happy hour' scheme offers discount rates between 10
a.m. to 3 p.m. The place gives a feeling of a family club house.
The fact that one need not be an expert at the table encourages
more people to take up the sport. There is a coach available to
teach you how to play.
Wild West hosted a snooker tournament to which the top eight
players of Tamil Nadu were invited. The parlour hopes to host an
exclusive tournament for college girls. With the clearance from
the Tamil Nadu Billiards and Snooker Association, Wild West will
soon be the venue for mega tournaments with great cash prizes for
winners. The lounge area will soon include internet kiosks and a
cafeteria so visitors can surf while they wait for their turn.
According to Mr. H. Suresh, Manager, Advertising and Promotions,
Wild West is only the beginning that is likely to extend to a
whole new world of leisure and entertainment. Soon to come is a
wide range of leisure activities like virtual reality theatre,
bowling alley, Iwerks theatre, bumping cars, health club,
swimming pool, beauty parlour and convention centre.
