SYDNEY, OCT. 21. Records tumbled in the pool and on the track at the Sydney Paralympic Games on Saturday with Canadian and European swimmers dominating in the water and an Englishman starring on land.

Vision-impaired Englishman Bob Matthews won the first track gold of the athletics program. Matthews, competing in his sixth consecutive Paralympic Games, won the 10,000 metres in 35:23.07.

In the high jump, Ruslan Sivitski of Belarus set a new world mark of 2.02m. Britain leads the medal tally on the third day of competition, followed by France, Spain, the United States and Australia.

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) identified the four as Romanian Aurel Berbec, Bulgarian Radko Radev, Marina Diakonova of Russia and Ali Mahmoudikordkheili of Iran.
