Veerappan didn't want our emissary: Krishna
By Our Staff Reporter
BANGALORE, OCT. 25. The Karnataka Chief Minister, Mr. S.M.
Krishna, expressed confidence in the Legislative Council today
that Veerappan would release the film star, Mr. Rajkumar, as the
brigand was aware of the efforts made by the Karnataka and Tamil
Nadu Governments to meet his demands. Mr. Krishna was replying to
a discussion during the preliminary submission seeking to raise
an adjournment motion on the actor's abduction.
On the criticism that Karnataka had not sent a representative to
meet Veerappan, he said that the outlaw had indicated that the
State should not approach him.
He said that by visiting Chennai to meet his counterpart, Mr. M.
Karunanidhi, instead of deputising the Home Minister or senior
officials, he had sent the right signal. The Government's
immediate objective was to send a clear message that it was
concerned about the safety of Mr. Rajkumar.
Mr. Krishna said that with the exception of the Cauvery water
dispute, which was being resolved, there was no serious
difference of opinion between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Mr.
Karunanidhi was a senior leader and commanded respect.
