Dhanraj Pillay to play in Malaysian league
CHENNAI, OCT. 25. Ace forward Dhanraj Pillay has signed up with
the a leading Malaysian Club in the Malaysian National hockey
league. He will play for BSN (Bank Simpanan Nasional) on a
contract for three months with breaks in between because of
Ramzan.
Dhanraj, who was in the city on Wednesday to collect his
Malaysian visa, told The Hindu that he would be available for the
National team as long as he was fit. He hoped to keep in
competitive trim and agreed to assist Mumbai in the National
hockey championship to be played in Jammu from the last week of
November. Immediately after return from Sydney, where India
missed a semifinal berth by a whisker, unable to hold a 1-0 lead
in the last minute and half, Dhanraj left for Germany to complete
the league assignment with Stuttgart Kickers. The team finished
fourth on the table. The club authorities, Dhanraj said, were
highly impressed by the consistently good level of performance
from him.
Dhanraj's Malaysian contract is up to March 31, 2001.
