Sumptuous feast for readers

The Deepavali issue of ``Kalaimagal,'' true to its reputation,
provides a sumptuous feast to literary and religious minded
people.
Starting with a poem on Goddess Meenakshi by the late Ki. Va.
Jagannathan, its editor for several decades, the issue contains
poems on Sri Chandrasekarendra Saraswathi, who blessed us till
recently, and articles by Sri Jayendra Saraswathi and Sri
Vijayendra Saraswathi.
The latter shows with the help of ``Thevaram'' and
``Divyaprabhandham'' hymns the purpose of birth.
He explains the lives of some saints who attained bliss leading a
righteous and devoted life.
Sakatapuram Sankaracharya stresses the need for good company to
reach the Lord's feet.
An article by Union Minister Murasoli Maran, lays stress on the
proper use of Intellectual Property Rights, which has been a
raging issue for the past few years.
Another article on late Na. Pichamurthy, by the executive editor,
recalls his contribution in the field of new poetry. The rich
legacy of the Saivite Maths in Tamil Nadu is brought out in yet
another article, with colourful illustrations.
Short stories of Thi. Janakiraman, Ka. Na. Subramaniam, Maayavi,
Naa. Parthasarathy and other writers of yesteryear as well as
articles by Kripananda Variar, Subramania Bharathi and Rajaji
take us down memory lane.
The issue contains many pictures of Gods and Goddesses. - TAS
Kalki : Opening with a colour picture of Kanchi Paramacharya
drawn by Vijayan and an article by Sri Jayaendra Saraswati, the
issue has a write up by Rajaji and literary pieces by T. G.
Narayanaswamy, Suki Sivam and N. Mahalingam.
Kalki's story figures in it. The other stories are written by
Vaiyavan, R. Choodamani, Suprabalan, Subha,Seetha Ravi, Kanchana
Damodaran, and Nandan.
The poems are penned by Ilaiyavan, Vathsala, Manushyaputhran,
Krishangini, Sukumaran and Ponmani Vairamuthu.
The children's section has a short story by Revathi and a poem by
R.P.Sarathi. There is also a women's section with a poem on
Mother by Ilanthai Su.Ramaswamy.
Amudhasurabhi: With an opening picture of Sri Kalaikambal
followed by a poem by Kavimani Desiyavinayakam Pillai, the issue
has a piece by Sri Jayendra Saraswati and a critical article on
Carnatic music by Na. Ramachandran.
Literary pieces by Dr. M. S. Udayamurthy, Mr. R. M. Veerappan,
Na. Mahalingam, Nadodi, Vidwan V. Lakshmanan and Dr. Poovanan
make interesting reading.
Colour pictures of Sri Maha Swamigal and Radhey Shyam are also
there. Stories written by popular writers who are no more, like
Chandilyan, T. Janakiraman, Rajendra Kumar and Prathibha
Rajagopalan are noteworthy. Sirpi, Sudar, Ervadi S.
Radhakrishnan, Ilayavan, Seeni Veerappan and Sakthikanal have
penned poems.
An article by Vikraman on Murali of Krishna Sweets and his hobby
of collecting idols of Vinayaka is interesting.
