CPI draws up strategy to win people's support
By Our Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD, NOV. 13. Admitting that there were some weaknesses in
the party's functioning at the ground level, the State CPI
special plenum held in Visakhapatnam has decided to devote the
coming year to expanding the support base of the organisation and
strengthening the party.
At a press conference here on Monday, Mr. S. Sudhakar Reddy,
secretary of the State Council of CPI, said the party had
realised that it was unable to articulate properly issues of
concern to the weaker sections, agriculture sector and the those
in backward areas, leading to the party losing some ground.
But it would come back with renewed vigour, once the document
finalised at the plenum was implemented, he said. It contains the
strategy to be adopted and new activities and mass movements to
be taken up to attract the oppressed classes and new generation
of people. The party would be one with these sections and take up
their struggles. The plenum was attended among others by the CPI
general secretary, Mr. A. B. Bardhan, and Mr. Dasari Nagabhushan
Rao, Rajya Sabha member.
He said as part of the efforts to strengthen the party, two new
wings would be started, one for tribals and another for dalits.
Activities of other existing fraternal organisations would also
be overhauled to give them a cutting edge. To prepare the cadre
to new challenges, a series of political classes would be taken
up for them.
To focus attention on regional imbalances and other issues, the
party has decided to organise rallies, padayatras and regional
conventions from December 10 to 15, at Warangal (for Telangana
region), Cuddapah (Rayalaseema) and Visakhapatnam (for North
Coastal Andhra).
The party has also decided to elevate Mr. Y. Gattaiah of
Singareni Workers Union and Mr. Azeez Pasha, city CPI secretary,
as members of the State Secretariat. Fourteen district committee
members and a secretary would also be replaced, for not working
up to the expectation of the party.
Mr. Reddy denied reports appearing in a section of the press
suggesting differences in the party and discrimination against
some castes and communities. ``We go by a party worker's work and
not by his caste or community,'' he added.
