BJP MLAs absent: MP House adjourned
By Our Staff Correspondent
BHOPAL, NOV. 24. The Madhya Pradesh Assembly was adjourned till
Monday shortly after question hour this morning without even
taking up the calling attention notices listed for the day due to
the absence of the leading Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party
members, who boycotted proceedings for the second consecutive day
in protest against the ``police lathi-charge in which three BJP
MLAs were injured'' at Morena recently.
The BJP members had raised this issue in the House yesterday
stalling the entire day's proceedings. Addressing newsmen in the
Assembly press room this afternoon, the Chief Minister, Mr.
Digvijay Singh, questioned the BJP members' role and said instead
of stalling the House proceedings and wasting public money they
should resolve this issue through talks.
The Chief Minister said he was present at Morena when the
incident involving the BJP MLAs occurred.
The three BJP MLAs - Mr. Munshilal, Mr. Bansilal Jatav and Mr.
Sewaram Gupta - have received injuries but it has to be
ascertained how Mr. Digvijay Singh said that there was no
lathicharge.
Narrating the sequence of events, the Chief Minister said these
MLAs had been advised by district authorities to meet him at the
Circuit House to hand over a memorandum on the prevailing drought
situation but they were adamant and wanted to organise a road
blockade and display black flags during his Morena visit. The BJP
MLAs might have stumbled over some objects and hurt themselves
when the police was trying to clear the road for his vehicle to
pass through, the Chief Minister told newsmen.
While emphasising that the BJP MLAs were free to get an inquiry
conducted into this incident by a House committee, the Chief
Minister said the State Government is also ready to get the MLAs,
who have been injured in the Morena incident, treated any where
in the State or outside.
Making light of the whole episode, the Chief Minister said Mr.
Munshilal had to be lifted and brought to the House by some BJP
MLAs but on his way back everyone noticed how he was walking
without any assistance. The Chief Minister further said that he
had met the Governor today and apprised him this incident.
