Sena against linking ceasefire to Ramzan
By Our Special Correspondent
MUMBAI, NOV. 26. The Shiv Sena chief, Mr. Bal Thackeray, deplored
his followers' act of burning the effigy of the Prime Minister,
Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee, and warned them that such misbehaviour
should not be indulged in, particularly in case of a friendly
party.
In a late Saturday night statement to the Shiv Sena mouthpiece,
Saamna, Mr. Thackeray said his party was not opposed to the
ceasefire as such, but to the Government's linking it to Ramzan.
Since Pakistan-trained terrorists never took into account the
religious importance of the pilgrimage to Amarnath when
unleashing violence, or in killing Holi revellers and massacring
innocent Sikhs, the Government should not have cared so much for
Ramzan. The Shiv Sena chief described his decision not to further
pressure and embarrass the Vajpayee Government as a bitter pill
gulped in national interests.
