Indian film fete opens in Sydney
SYDNEY, NOV. 26. The Second Goat Island film festival celebrating
Indian cinema opened amidst much fanfare here this weekend.
As the sun set behind the harbour bridge, about a thousand people
assembled at Dendy opera quays to be ferried to the island.
Surprisingly, there were a large number of non- Indians.
Inaugurating the 10-day annual festival, the Mayor of Sydney,
Councillor, Mr. Frank Sartor, said, ``we are bringing you a slice
of one of the world's largest film industries as people across
the world become more aware of the Bollywood style.''
``The rich and diverse culture of India is becoming more and more
a part of our lives in cosmopolitan Sydney.
In tandem with this, Indian producers, actors and directors are
working more in Australia,'' he added.
As many as 25 Indian and Australian films are being screened
during the festival.
