Govt. to go on appeal against court order on Plus Two

By Our Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, NOV. 26. The Government has decided to go on appeal against the order of the single bench of the High Court in the case relating to the sanctioning of Plus Two schools in the State.

The court had found that the Government order was illegal and its failure to comply with the orders of the court in this regard amounted to contempt of court.

The Chief Minister, Mr. E. K. Nayanar, said in a statement here on Sunday that he had issued instructions to the concerned to file an appeal against the court's findings before the Division Bench of the court.

The Chief Minister said that the Opposition demand for resignation of the Government over the court order was childish. It was usual that the courts scrutinised the orders of the Government and set aside some of them on technical or other grounds. There was nothing new in the changing or withdrawal of Government orders on the basis of such court orders.

Mr. Nayanar said the Plus Two system was introduced in the State on the basis of changes in the education sector at national level. However, the Opposition had tried to undermine the system and launched a violent agitation. It disrupted the Assembly session through undemocratic measures. The UDF and the BJP also destroyed private and public property in the name of the agitation. A KSRTC worker was killed. Now, they were trying to find justification for their agitation in the name of the court order. Their efforts to mislead the public was not going to succeed. The LDF Government would complete its term, defeating the efforts of the UDF under the leadership of Mr. A. K. Antony to bring down the Government, he added.
