More than a grill

QUIZZING IS the in thing. The classy Siddarth Basu could hook the elite and the dynamic Derek O' Brien the schoolchildren with their articulate yet unassuming style. But if one man who brought the entire nation to a standstill and who often churns out `lakhpatis' (if not crorepatis!) is none other than the irrepressible Amitabh Bachchan.

Now, the quiz virus seems to be spreading its tentacles faster in the city. From school-going kids to youngsters in colleges, they are all breaking their heads to the twisters posed in the multitude of competitions held in the city. The popularity has touched such heights that a game of quiz is imperative for a youth fest or a get-together.

It was but natural when `Abacus-2000', the annual IT festival of Bankatlal Badruka College of Information Technology ended on Saturday, it was the IT quiz that stood out. It turned out to be a real humdinger what with students at their spirited best as answers tumbled out at lightening speed. Nope, there were neither `lifelines' nor the `persuasive' Big B. But the influence of KBC was all pervasive.

Several teams from various colleges participated in the quiz. It was not the run-of-the-mill kind quizzing. There was a visual round and a rapid fire too. The JNTU College of Engineering walked away with the honours, bagging the first prize.
