A rowing success
THE OARS churn the waters. The boatmen pour in all their energies
into the paddles and move in a symphony. They heave, huff and
puff. The muscles ache, but the boat moves ahead piercing the
still waters of the lake.
The paddling is now at a frenzied pace and the boat gains
momentum, like an arrow let out from a bow, and surges ahead.
Canoes, kayaks, rafts and wheeler boats, there were all there
lapping against the waters of the Hussainsagar lake. The odd
scooter boat whizzed past with a roar.
This was the competition on - well, not the high seas - high
waters with personnel of the Andhra Pradesh Special Police, EME
Centre, and the young cadets from the National Cadet Corps
putting their best arms forward and paddling away to victory.
A part of the 42nd Raising Day celebrations of the APSP, the
competition was in various classes - kayaks, canoes, wheeler
boats, rowing boats, laser, enterprise and so on. The colourful
sails fluttered in the air and cast shadows in the dark waters
even as the sun sank into those skyscrapers on the other end of
the lake.
But, the holiday crowd had their monies' worth with their eyes
able to behold not just the lake water and those fancy boats
introduced by the Tourism Department, but a whole fleet of real
boats and strong oarsmen who showed them what boating was all
about. Sheer hard work and sheer pleasure too!
