FIIs, net sellers in equities and debt
MUMBAI,NOV.26.Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were net
sellers in both equities and debt to the tune of Rs. 82.9 crores
($ 17.9 million) and Rs. 58.1 crores ($ 12.5 million)
respectively in the week ended November 24.
According to the data provided by the Securities and Exchange
Board of India (SEBI), FIIs were net sellers in equities on
November 20, 21 and 23 while they were net buyers on the
remaining two days of trading.
During the reporting week, the BSE sensitive index rose on the
first and last day of trading by 20.68 points and 15.94 points
respectively. On November 21, the decline in Sensex was marginal
but it lost 62.31 points the next day and continued to slide by
9.99 points on November 23.
The BSE sensitive index was trapped in a narrow range of 3947.98
and 3826.42 before ending the week at 3868.34 against last
weekend's close of 3905.84, netting a moderate fall of 37.50
points.
On November 20, FIIs purchased equities of Rs. 141.2 crores while
they offloaded equities worth Rs. 238.1 crores, turning into net
sellers of Rs. 96.9 crores ($ 20.9 million). FIIs remained net
sellers on November 21 and 23 to the extent of Rs. 26.7 crores ($
5.8 million) and Rs. 47 crores ($ 10.1 million) respectively.
However, they were net buyers of Rs. 35.8 crores ($ 7.7 million)
and Rs. 51.9 crores ($ 11.2 million) on November 22 and 24
respectively.
In the debt market, FIIs were net sellers on November 21 at Rs.
15.9 crores ($ 3.4 million), November 22 at Rs. 37.2 crores ($ 8
million) and November 24 at Rs. 31 crores ($ 6.7 million). They
did not buy or sell on November 23.
FIIs were net buyers in debt at Rs. 26 crores ($ 5.6 million) on
November 20.
The SEBI data on mutual fund purchases/sales for the four days
beginning November 20 shows that they were net sellers in
equities at Rs. 84.24 crores while they were net buyers in debt
at Rs. 147.45 crores.
