Rs. 145 cr. for road repairs
By Our Staff Correspondent
SHIMOGA, NOV. 27. The Public Works Minister, Mr. Dharam Singh,
said on Monday that his department had put up a proposal for
taking up repairs of main roads which suffered extensive damage
in heavy rains this year. The work, estimated to cost Rs. 145
crores, would be taken up on priority, he added.
Mr. Singh, who flew in by a helicopter on a hurried visit to
Shikaripur town, 60 km. from here, to inspect the conditions of
the two main roads passing through Shikaripur taluk, told
presspersons that Rs. 75 crores drawn from the Chief Minister's
Fund had been equally divided between northern Karnataka and
southern Karnataka to take up urgent repairs of main roads.
Mr. Singh said 153 bridges in the State had been identified for
repair which would be taken up with the help of the Karnataka
Road Development Corporation funds. He said some bridges in
Sagar, Sorab, Shikaripur and Hosnagar taluks in Shimoga District,
which needed immediate repairs, would be taken up under this
scheme.
