Pharmacy in hospitals to be modernised: CM
By Our Staff Reporter
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, NOV. 27. The Government would take steps to
modernise the pharmacy setup in hospitals and tone up pharmacy
education in the State, the Chief Minister, Mr. E. K. Nayanar,
has said.
Inaugurating the Pharma Ex-2000 organised in the VJT Hall in
connection with the observance of the National Pharmacy Week, Mr.
Nayanar said that under the community pharmacy project, Paying
Counters were coming up all over the State.
The Government was keen on setting up Maveli and Neethi medical
stores all over the State in an effort to reach medicines to the
people at affordable prices. A Neethi Medical Store had been set
up in Sabarimala also, he said.
Mr. Nayanar said that as part of the steps to modernise pharmacy
education, an M.Pharm Pharmacy Practice Course was being started
in the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College this year. Clinical
pharmacy sections were also being set up in the Kottayam and
Kozhikode Medical Colleges this year itself.
He urged pharmacists and druggists to react strongly against
drug manufacturers who flouted human values and ethics in the
craze for making money. Drug manufacturers were constantly trying
to induce people to take drugs, whether these were needed or not,
with the help of tantalising advertisements.
In his keynote address, Dr. S. Balaraman, State Human Rights
Commission Member, stressed the need to protect the human rights
of patients, who were also consumers. The Paying Counter which
was functioning effectively in the Medical College here, should
be extended to all prominent hospitals in the State, he felt.
The ongoing pharmacy exhibition would conclude on November 29.
