NEW DELHI, NOV. 27. The C. K. Birla Group company, Hindustan
Motors, is planning to launch more variants of its mid-size
luxury car 'Mitsubishi Lancer' and also expanding its dealer
network in the country.
"With the aim to become a leading player in this segment in the
Indian market, and to leverage the wide acceptance that the
Lancer has received in India, we are considering bringing in more
variants from that same family," the HM President, Mr. B. K.
Chaturvedi, said today.
As part of the ongoing restructuring drive of its dealerships,
the company was adding 12 dealers to the existing 40 and is
moving towards the sub-urban and the rural markets.
The Lancer is manufactured at HM's Rs. 300 crore plant at
Thiruvallur near Chennai, in technical collaboration with
Mitsubishi Motor Corporation of Japan, a company statement said.
The mid-size sedan, which has a localisation content of 56 per
cent, has been chosen the top car in the initial quality study
(IQS) and automotive, performance, executive and layout conducted
by information services firm, J D Power Asia Pacific for 2000.
