Conceived as a forum for manufacturers and users of construction equipment to come together to facilitate faster growth of the infrastructure sector, Excon 2000 is supported by the Union Ministry of Surface Transport and the Government of Karnataka, which will be the Partner State for the event.

Addressing a press conference here today, Mr. Sarosh J. Ghandy, Chairman of Excon 2000, and Mr. Ravi Uppal, Chairman of CII- Karnataka, said leading players in the construction equipment manufacturing industry and financiers - Caterpillar, Cummins, SREI International, Telcon, Volvo, Hydrolines, Escorts JCB, Svedala, Wipro Fluid Power and IL & FS - had co-sponsored the event which would include two conferences devoted to related technologies (December 13) and financing options (December 14).

A total of about 80 construction equipment manufacturers, suppliers to manufacturers and financial institutions would participate in the exhibition at the Palace Grounds. A ``demonstration hour'' for operating the exhibits would be one of the highlights of the fair, to be opened in the presence of Maj. Gen. B. D. Khanduri, Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, and Mr. S. M. Krishna, Chief Minister of Karnataka.

Mr. Ravi Uppal said the setting up of equipment banks as already done by equipment manufacturers and innovative financing/leasing options would enable small contractors to compete with big companies. Excon, which was the first of its kind in Asia, was expected to become a biennial event of the CII.

Mr. R. ParasuRaman, Chairman, CII-Tamil Nadu State Council, said Excon was conceived in tune with several other summit and exhibition/conference programmes of the CII aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of Indian industry.
