UTI buys stake in health portal

HYDERABAD: The Unit Trust of India has acquired a two per cent stake in apollolife.com, a healthcare portal belonging to the Apollo Hospitals group. The portal was designed and developed by international consultants Boston Consultancy Group (BCG). According to a press release, Apollo Hospitals group holds 51 per cent equity stake, BCG 5 per cent, and the balance is held by NRIs and doctors. The portal services the needs of individuals, corporates, doctors and hospitals. It said apollolife.com recently launched an educational joint venture with NIIT, www.medvarsity.com.

RIL's nationwide OFC network

NEW DELHI: Reliance Industries (RIL) said today it would create a nationwide optic fibre broadband network connecting 115 cities and towns that will serve as the lifeline for the Indian info.com industry. ``We plan to create a nationwide, all optic, broadband IP networks, with terabit capacity (connecting the country's top 115 cities and towns that will serve as the lifeline for the Indian info.com industry,'' Mr. Anil Ambani, Managing Director, RIL said at the India Economic Summit 2000, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the World Economic Forum (WEF).

SBI helpline

CHENNAI: The State Bank of India (SBI) has opened a helpline at Chennai with a dedicated toll free phone line/fax/exclusive e- mail address. The bank inaugurated the help line (call centre) here today. Addressing a press conference here, Mr. B. Ramachandra Rao, Chief General Manager, SBI, Chennai Circle, said the help line would fulfil the expectations of the customers in getting the information about products and services offered.

Hard n Soft launches citybrowser.com

CHENNAI: The Chennai-based Hard n Soft Technologies has launched citybrowser.com. The site lists training programmes, conferences and exhibition events conducted all over the world. The portal, developed and marketed by Hard n Soft, is owned by the U.S.-based Envision Technologies. Hard n Soft specialises in providing user friendly software solutions in multimedia, websites, e-commerce and other high-end areas.

CED to expand operations

CHENNAI: Centre for Entrepreneur Development (CED), having its head quarters in Madurai, is all set to establish branches all over Tamil Nadu. CED, which is currently operating with 18 branches, proposes to expand its operations in northern Tamil Nadu by establishing more branches. CED, engaged in offering training and consultancy services to the small and medium industries, provides specific training courses in multimedia, e- commerce, medical transcription, catering and hotel management, sales and marketing. It plans to offer training courses in GIS, call centre management and the like, says a press release.
