Rain in Nellore, Chittoor dts.

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, NOV. 29. The cyclonic storm spared Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday when it crossed the coast, near Cuddalore in Tamil Nadu, without touching even the fringes of the State.

The cyclone, which turned ``very severe'' yesterday, forcing the administration to take extreme steps such as instant evacuation of coastal villagers in Nellore and other districts, ended as a distant phenomenon as it moved overland about 400 km off the last southern part of the State. The Government heaved a sigh of relief and dewarned the entire system, including Air Force and Navy which kept ready helicopters and boats for rescue operations. However, the cyclone had its impact in parts of Nellore and Chittoor districts where the weather throughout the day was ``windy and rainy.''ellore town itself received a heavy rainfall of 58.8 mm while it was 14.4 mm in Tirupati. A large number of other places in Nellore, Chittoor and some coastal districts also were under a wet spell but the rain was less than 1 cm. According to reports reaching the Government, there was drizzle in Kavali and other areas towards the evening.

The Commissioner for Relief and Rehabilitation, Mr. D. C. Rosaiah, said there was no damage of any sort either to life or property on account of rain.
