Varsity fete reflects rich Telugu culture
THE SPIRITS soared and the mood was exuberant. The chilly winter
breeze that has set in was in contrast to the warmth spread all
over the campus. The otherwise sedate Potti Sriramulu Telugu
University throbbed with raw energy fuelled by the desire of the
youngsters to excel and enjoy.
Friendship-2000, the student festival of the university held last
week was a lively affair with room for all and sundry and every
possible event. If the serious students used the dais to expose
their hidden talents in myriad spheres, the non-serious ones too
were there adding colour to the festival.
Imagine the resplendence if girls and guys from over 75 colleges
gather at one place. The campus resembled a village fete (after
all the university was formed to preserve and promote Telugu
culture). In tune with the university's image the events
conducted reflected the rich Telugu culture as well as the ones
that are associated with the changing times.
Events like Rangoli and classical music took care of the Telugu
culture, others like Add campaign, creative writing and IT quiz
were drawn from the student festivals of other colleges. From the
studious to the modern, students from all categories were present
and equally enjoyed. "The idea was to bring about cultural
integration through the process of friendship of students from
different colleges", says Mr. Ch. Venkat, convener, Festival
Committee.
The Railway Degree College walked away with the overall
championship followed by the Government Women's Degree College,
Begumpet. The Telugu University students didn't disappoint as
they won seven prizes.
Medical admissions
WITH THE much-awaited medical admissions likely to begin in the
second week of December, the medical aspirants are a relieved
lot.
According to NTR Health University officials, counselling would
be held on December 8, 9 and 10. The admissions would be held in
three phases. In the first phase, they would be held for open
category students on December 8 and 9.
In the subsequent phases, admissions would be held for BC and SC
candidates. Admissions for ST candidates would be held on the
same day of admissions for NCC, sports, handicapped and ex-
servicemen. For the SC admissions, the university would follow
the High Court orders on categorisation of SC reservations.
