Talwandi, new SGPC chief

AMRITSAR, NOV. 30. Bibi Jagir Kaur, first woman president of a key religious body of Sikhs, was today replaced as SGPC chief, capping a controversial term that was brought to an end by the CBI's charge against her of murdering her daughter, Harpreet.

With help from the Tohra faction, Mr. Jagdev Singh Talwandi, a former Akali Dal chief, now aligned with the Badal faction, was unanimously elected the new SGPC chief at a meeting of the general body of the SGPC.
