Public response to road-widening lauded

HYDERABAD, NOV. 30. One of the important roads in the Miralam Mandi area of Old city is being widened to 60 feet and will be developed on the lines of Necklace Road with modern lighting, Dr. P.K. Mohanty, MCH Commissioner, has said.

The Commissioner told presspersons after a visit by the City- level Coordination Committee to some of the Old city areas on Thursday that it was heartening to note the public cooperation to the widening of the Miralam Mandi Road. The Lad Bazar road would also be widened to 60 ft.

The officials should take into account the financial status of residents as also location of religious places. Dr. Mohanty stated that a committee would be formed to look into the compensation to be paid to such persons. The Commissioner faulted construction of temples on the roads, like the one that had come up in Moghulkanala of Puranapul.

He said the Miralam Tank-Bahadurpura road could be developed as a double road. A landscape garden would also come up at Bahadurpura. While stressing the need for improving the parking, the Commissioner asked the DCP, Traffic, Mr. M.V. Dinakar Prasad, not to permit parking of sand lorries in the Bahadurpura area.

He also asked the DCP to have traffic signages and lighting in and around all important city roads in view of the forthcoming `Friendship meet' here in January. The Collector, Mr. Rajeshwar Tiwari, Mr. M.G. Gopal, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, HMWSSB, and Mr. K. Aravinda Rao, ACP, were also present.
