OGH to be developed like a corporate hospital: Minister
By Our Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD, NOV. 30. Several measures were being initiated to
develop Osmania General Hospital into one of the premier medicare
centres of the country, Dr. S. Aruna, Minister for Health and
Family Welfare, said here on Thursday.
Addressing a gathering to mark 135 years of the hospital's
existence, Dr. Aruna said that the hospital catered to the needs
of 6.3 lakh outpatients and 3.35 lakh inpatients every year. The
Government was planning to update the technology on par with that
of corporate hospitals, she said.
The need to have a modern mortuary was fulfilled with the
sanction of Rs. 98 lakhs for the new building which would house
forensic facility too. But, it was not enough to have all the
facilities as without a dedicated staff, the equipment would
serve little purpose.
She honoured former superintendents of the hospital later.
Earlier, the Home Minister, Mr. T. Devender Goud, and the Civil
Supplies Minister, Dr. N. Janardhan Reddy, regretted the slide of
Osmania General Hospital and said they would render necessary
service to upgrade the hospital to suit the needs of patients
thronging it.
Mr. Goud inaugurated online service of the hospital while Dr.
Janardhan Reddy honoured former heads of departments who
developed the hospital. Dr. Hyderkhan, Dr. Veeraghava Reddy, Dr.
Ranganatha Rao, Dr. D.L.N. Prasad, Dr. D. Satyanarayana, Dr. C.M.
Habibullah and Dr. Gopalkishan were among those who were given
mementos.
Dr. G. Shyam Sundar, Vice-Chancellor, NTR University of Health
Sciences, presided. Mr. P.K. Rastogi, Secretary, Department of
Finance and Planning, presented a report.
