OGH to be developed like a corporate hospital: Minister

HYDERABAD, NOV. 30. Several measures were being initiated to develop Osmania General Hospital into one of the premier medicare centres of the country, Dr. S. Aruna, Minister for Health and Family Welfare, said here on Thursday.

Addressing a gathering to mark 135 years of the hospital's existence, Dr. Aruna said that the hospital catered to the needs of 6.3 lakh outpatients and 3.35 lakh inpatients every year. The Government was planning to update the technology on par with that of corporate hospitals, she said.

The need to have a modern mortuary was fulfilled with the sanction of Rs. 98 lakhs for the new building which would house forensic facility too. But, it was not enough to have all the facilities as without a dedicated staff, the equipment would serve little purpose.

She honoured former superintendents of the hospital later. Earlier, the Home Minister, Mr. T. Devender Goud, and the Civil Supplies Minister, Dr. N. Janardhan Reddy, regretted the slide of Osmania General Hospital and said they would render necessary service to upgrade the hospital to suit the needs of patients thronging it.

Mr. Goud inaugurated online service of the hospital while Dr. Janardhan Reddy honoured former heads of departments who developed the hospital. Dr. Hyderkhan, Dr. Veeraghava Reddy, Dr. Ranganatha Rao, Dr. D.L.N. Prasad, Dr. D. Satyanarayana, Dr. C.M. Habibullah and Dr. Gopalkishan were among those who were given mementos.

Dr. G. Shyam Sundar, Vice-Chancellor, NTR University of Health Sciences, presided. Mr. P.K. Rastogi, Secretary, Department of Finance and Planning, presented a report.
