By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI, DEC. 1. Maruti Udyog today claimed that it had
achieved over 60 per cent market share in November by selling
27,007 vehicles. This is the first time in this fiscal that
Maruti's market share has crossed 60 per cent, stated a company
news release.
The company sold relatively fewer vehicles in October partly due
to a union-management stand-off. The performance in November is a
52 per cent improvement over October, said the company news
release.
MUL sold 18,139 units in the A segment, 8,087 units in the B
segment which has been fortified with the introduction of the
Wagon-R and Alto and 781 in the C segment.
During November, the company sold 13,192 units of Maruti 800 as
against 8,775 last month, 4,947 Omni (2,934), 667 Esteem (493),

This was 62 per cent higher than the sales for the corresponding

the same period last year.
Hyundai Motor
Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL) today reported a November sale of
7842 cars, up by 6.5 per cent from October sales. A release from
the company says that it has sold 1.52 lakh cars thus far since
its debut car Santro was unleashed on the Indian market in
October 1998. Sales have recorded a 54.5 per cent growth during
January-November this year compared to the same period last year.
General Motors
General Motors India (GMI) reported a steep jump in car sales at
446 units during November as against 141 units sold in the same
month last year. The company sold 200 units of its premium mid-
size 'Opel Astra' car during the month while the rest comprised
mid-size 'Opel Corsa", according to Mr. P. Balendran, Vice
President (corporate affairs).
The November sales were, however, down by 18 per cent compared to
