Award conferred on Mikkilineni

HYDERABAD, DEC. 2. Noted actor, scholar and freedom fighter, Dr.
Mikkilineni Radhakrishnamurthy was conferred the "Visishta
Puraskaram" 1999 of the Sri Potti Sree Ramulu Telugu University
here on Saturday. The occasion was the 15th Foundation Day
celebrations of the university.
Assuring the university of help in expanding its activities
further, the Minister for Higher Education, Mr. K. Ramachandra
Rao, said the university must begin orientation courses for the
children of Non-Resident Indians to sustain their link with their
motherland. He said the university had a major role to play in
propagating the Telugu culture. The Government and the university
had a common goal in promoting the cause of Telugu and Telugus,
he said.
Dr. N. Gopi, Vice-Chancellor of the university, detailed the
academic programmes undertaken by the university with external
aid and on its own.
Thespian, Dr. Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Advisor to the Government
on Film, Television and Drama, termed the choice of the awardee
as an honour for the university instead.
Dr. Radhakrishnamurthy was honoured with a shawl, citation,
momento and a cheque for Rs. 50,000.
