By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, DEC. 2. The Union Minister of State for Urban Development, Mr. Bandaru Dattatreya, on Saturday underlined the need for expediting all cases pertaining to land disputes in the city, particularly those under the Urban Land Ceiling Act, and disbursal of available land to the poor residing there.

Accompanied by the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad Commissioner, Dr. P.K. Mohanty, he visited several slums and colonies in the Khairatabad Assembly segment here and reviewed various developmental activities taken up there.

He said hundreds of poor families were living in such "disputed areas" for several decades in the city. "We need to arrive at an amicable settlement - a one-third of the land to the poor and the rest to the owners," he said.

Mr. Dattatreya who visited several slums in Yousufguda, Rahamathnagar, Krishnanagar, Ambedkarnagar, A.G. Colony, Jawaharnagar and Laxminarasimhanagar areas was faced with a litany of complaints, predominantly on drinking water supply and sanitary conditions. He underlined the need for constructing Sulabh complexes all over the city.

He said 5,000 houses were constructed under HUDCO schemes in the city so far for poorer sections and work on another 14,000 houses was still pending.
