Easy win for Karnataka

MARGAO, DEC. 2. On the penultimate day of the Ranji Trophy match between Karnataka and Goa at the Rajendra Prasad Stadium here on Saturday there was some apprehension that Karnataka might suffer owing to the vagaries of the weather. The weather report on Friday evening had predicted showers over Goa and the city had a cloud build up on Friday night. But fortunately for the visitors, the skies cleared up and they scored a comfortable nine-wicket victory over Goa thereby clinching a place in the second round of the tournament.

Karnataka, commencing at 25 for no loss, had no difficulty in cruising to victory. The game was over in just an hour and 13 minutes on the final day. J. Arun Kumar played some rasping shots for a fast fifty (54m, 48b, 10x4) but became impatient after that. Trying to hoist Satyajit Medappa for a big six over long-on he only succeeded in skying the ball to Rohit Rane who took a well judged catch.
