'Why Central forces?'
By Our Special Correspondent
BANGALORE, DEC. 3. The Defence Minister, Mr. George Fernandes,
today almost disapproved of the decision of his own Government to
send Border Security Force personnel and National Security Guard
commandos to nab forest brigand, Veerappan.
Within a day of the police top brass of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka
discussing the conduct of joint operations against Veerappan
based on the assurance of the Union Government that it would
provide 1,000 BSF personnel and the NSG at a later stage, Mr.
Fernandes said utilising Central forces to assist the Special
Task Force did not make sense; it was the job of police to nab
Veerappan.
