Fake passport racket busted, 5 arrested
By Our Staff Reporter
BANGALORE, DEC. 3. The Bangalore Airport Police have unearthed a
major racket involving a group of people who were creating fake
passports and sending illiterate women to work to the Gulf. Five
persons have been arrested in this connection.
Police said that on Saturday 16 illiterate women who were to
board a flight (IC-977) to Muscat came for emigration clearance
at the airport.
During the scrutiny of their documents, passport and visa, the
police found discrepancies with regard to emigration check and
the women were not allowed to board the flight. During
interrogation, it came to light that the women were illiterates.
Police suspected foul play and registered a case under the
Emigration Act, 1983.
On the basis of the information given by the women, a police team
arrested five persons from areas surrounding the airport.
The names of the accused were given as Sharief Ahmed, Devanathan
and Yusuf of Bangalore, and Unani and Venkatasubbaiah of Andhra
Pradesh.
The accused, who were agents for those running the racket, had
come to see off the women at the airport. The key players are yet
to be nabbed and investigations are on.
