Vidya Mandir bags overall shield at Young World contest

BANGALORE, DEC. 3. There was an overwhelming response from students from different parts of the State to the The Hindu Young World Painting Competition held at Goodwill Girls High School, Frazer Town here on Sunday. Over 1,100 students took part in the competition.

Sri Vidya Mandir High School of Malleswaram walked off with the overall shield and the "Best Art Teacher" Award.

It was H.S.Rajith, a VIII Standard student of the school, who bagged the first prize in the senior category, while a large number of other participants from the school put up a good show.

Brinda Chandar, X Standard student of Sree Rama Vidyalaya, Jayanagar, Anish Nair, IX Standard student of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Malleswaram, bagged second and third prizes in the senior category, which attracted over 500 participants.

The top honours in the junior category went to Anagha S.Bhat, VII Standard student of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Indian Institute of Science Campus (first prize), Elizabeth Mathew, also VII Standard student of Kendriya Vidyalaya School, ASC (South) of Victoria Layout (second prize) and G.S.Nishitha, VI Standard student of St. Mira's High School, Basaveswaranagar. Over 600 students participated in this category.

Aliya Sheriff, a physically challenged student (VII Standard) from Cathedral High School, won a special consolation prize in the junior category.

The names of the other winners: S.Kavya of Carmel School, Padmanabhanagar, S.Lakshmi of National Public School, Rajajinagar, A.Gowri of Vijaya High School, South End Circle, Sneha M. and S.Preethi Saroja, both of Cluny Convent High School, Malleswaram, Sharath V.Bharadwaj of B.H.S., Jayanagar, R.Navina of Stella Maris High School, Vyalikaval, Martina John of Sacred Heard Girls High School, Museum Road.

Dilip J.Hiremath of Jyoti Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kanakapura Road, Madhu N. of Sri Vidya Mandir, 11th Cross, Malleswaram, Reema D'Souza of Sacred Heart Girls School and Ishita Sur of Cluny Convent, Malleswaram (consolation prizes from 1 to 12 in that order in senior category).
