Twinkle twinkle dancing stars
THERE MUST be something about Hrithik Roshan that makes people of
different age groups swoon. Though it's been sometime since the
`Kaho na pyar hai...' happened and Hrithik himself is a couple of
films old, the movie and its songs are still a rage.
A good example of the following Hrithik and his songs command
among the youngsters was amply evident at the `Modern Dance'
competitions held as part of the Yoga Day celebrations
at Gandhi Gyan Mandir Yoga Kendra in Koti. The event was divided
into three categories of seniors, juniors and sub-juniors but in
each section there were at least two of the participants swinging
to the tunes of `Ek pal ka jeena...' of the hottest star's debut
film.
The forward, backward steps were in sync with the real Hrithik,
well...almost like that, and the interesting part was that both
boys and girls (Rekha and others) attempted the seemingly tough
dance.
Chiranjeevi's brother, Pawan Kalyan, was the next favourite whose
songs were danced with gusto as in `Missamma...missamma' by V.
Karthik and `I am an Indian...' which were very well received.
It was amazing how children manage to remember the steps and the
lyrics as well. Many even made the extra effort of aping their
heroes by wearing flashy clothes and the likes. Prior to the
dances, the morning was enlivened with a fashion show. Perhaps,
the languid grace, poise and style was missing but the children's
plucky nature made the catwalk an amusing but entertaining show.
"I did it for a lark. Actually, I came here for the modern
dance," said Meera, a class four girl.
"We want to attract the children first so that we can propagate
the goodness of yoga," said Dr. Praveen Kapadia, Director of the
Kendra, who has been conducting the contests for some years now.
Whether it's influence of the cable or movies, these children
would sure do a Lara Dutta, Priyanka Chopra...Urmila Matondkar,
Aishwarya Rai and others proud. No need to worry about the next
generation mannequins!
The winners in fashion parade were: Seniors - Manisha, Sudha and
Jharinath. Juniors - Supraja, Karthik and Kunj. Modern dance:
Seniors - Sudha, Radhika and Rekha. Juniors - Deepika, Mythra and
Abhishek. Sub-juniors - Priyanka, Karthik and Supraja.
