BHEL bags Rs. 650 cr. orders
NEW DELHI, DEC. 3. The State-owned Bharat Heavy Electricals
(BHEL) has said it has bagged orders worth about Rs. 650 crores
till November this fiscal as against previous year's order
booking of Rs. 703 crores.
While 1999-2000 export booking was a seven fold increase, current
export orders include orders for 124 MW ISO rated gas turbine
based power plant equipment for an overseas independent power
project (IPP) in Sri Lanka, a company statement said here.
The second consecutive order from Iraq for two units of 159 MW
ISO rating gas turbine power plant equipment and a turnkey
contract for the largest ever overseas substation of 330 kV from
Zambia also figure in current year's order book.
Spurred by spectacular successes achieved on the export front,
BHEL has drawn up a multi-pronged action plan to ensure sustained
growth in the overseas markets. BHEL's strategic plan for further
stimulating export growth was expected to provide impetus to its
ambitious goal of enhancing export turnover by three-folds of the
existing levels by 2006-07.
While consolidating its presence in the existing markets, the
company was making efforts to grab project export opportunities
in new markets and was proactively taking this up with the
government and the Exim Bank for support, the release said.
Target markets for BHEL include West Asia, Europe and north
Africa. The company has already opened regional offices in
traditional markets like Malaysia and Dubai, while offices in
other potential markets were scheduled to open shortly.
In the product export segment, BHEL was focusing on certain
target products which meet exacting international quality
standards and could be used as vehicles for entering new markets.
BHEL has made an entry in the central Asian region by bagging the
first ever export order from Azerbaijan, close on the heels of
its forays into the Syrian, Kuwaiti and Taiwanese markets. It had
bagged an order for a 78.2 MvA hydro generator package for the
EBRD-funded Mingechaur hydro electric project (Azerbaijan), the
release said. The company was also positioning itself to becoming
a regular source of components and products for global original
equipment manufacturers (OEMs), engineering, procurement and
construction (EPC) contracts and other multinational companies,
not only for intermediate and semi-finished products, but also
for complimentary equipment for their projects.
