Australia crushes Ireland

CHRISTCHURCH, DEC 3. Australia crushed Ireland by 10 wickets, while New Zealand scored an emphatic 122-run victory over Sri Lanka in the CricInfo women's cricket World Cup here on Sunday.

At Hagley Oval, Ireland, which opted to bat, found itself blown away by the impressive Aussie attack, in which veteran Zoe Goss was outstanding with figures of four for 10.

Catherine O' Neill strove hard for her 28, but then a total of 90 was unlikely to test the powerful Aussie line-up. It proved so.

lThe scores: Ireland 90 in 49.3 overs (Catherine O' Neill 28, Zoe Goss four for 10) lost to Australia 91 for no loss in 20.3 overs (Lisa Keightley 49 not out, Belinda Clark 40 not out).

New Zealand 210 for four in 50 overs (Anna O' Leary 91 not out, Haidee Tiffen 58) beat Sri Lanka 88 in 49.3 overs (A.D.H. Abeysinghe 30, Katrina Keenan two for 17, Haidee Tiffen two for 21).
