Police put on general alert
By Our Staff Reporter
BANGALORE, DEC. 5. A general alert has been sounded by the State
Police Headquarters here in view of the eighth anniversary of
Babri Masjid demolition on Wednesday.
Police officers have been asked to keep a vigil on the situation.
The top police officers, however, clarified that the police were
not expecting any trouble.
Meanwhile, the office-bearers of the State unit of All India
Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), Anjuman-e-Islam and other
Muslim organisations met the Governor, Ms. V.S. Rama Devi, and
submitted a memorandum to her. They demanded maintenance of
status quo at the disputed site in Ayodhya, stern action against
those responsible for demolition of the mosque and speedy
disposal of cases pending before Allahabad High Court on the
dispute. They also wanted an assurance through Parliament and the
Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly that no construction activity
would be allowed at the site till the cases pending before the
courts were disposed of.
Those who met the Governor included Mr. Mufti Ashraf Ali Khan,
President of the state unit of AIMPLB.
