Pak. response
Sir, - Pakistan's response to the Indian offer of ceasefire in
J&K - ``observance of maximum restraint along the Line of
Control'' (LoC) - is devoid of any real relevance, and appears to
be a ploy to mislead the world (U.S.), from her own indulgence in
``cross-border terrorism'', the real issue at stake!
The Indian Army is well poised to respond adequately to any
escalation/reduction of tension along the LoC. The Pakistan
Government needs to use its enormous influence over militants,
get them to exercise ``restraint'', and in turn exercise ``self-
restraint'' from infiltrating terrorists into Kashmir, to show
sincerity of purpose.
Will the U.S., which is exerting pressure on us to ``talk'', bind
the future governments of Pakistan to the solutions mutually
arrived at, considering that the present military government
lacks credibility, is in power without people's mandate and has
openly ridiculed Simla and Lahore declarations, arrived at in the
past with the democratically elected governments in Pakistan?
V.R.P. Sarathy,
Chennai
