Samuels replaces Chanderpaul

LONDON, DEC. 5. Jamaican batsman and off-spin bowler Marlon Samuels was selected by the West Indies today to replace the injured Shivnarine Chanderpaul on its tour of Australia.

However, the 19-year-old's selection is subject to him passing a physical fitness test and medical examination on his arrival, BBC Radio 5 Live said.

The West Indian Cricket Board said Chanderpaul, who suffered a stress fracture in his left leg prior to the second Test in Perth, will need six weeks to recover.

Samuels is a surprise inclusion for the tourist which is 2-0 down in the five-Test series. The three main candidates had been Chris Gayle, Ricardo Powell and Adrian Griffith.
