Vajpayee clarifies
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI, DEC. 6. Hours after the political furore caused by his
remarks on Ayodhya this morning, the Prime Minister, Mr. A. B.
Vajpayee, tried to somewhat temper what he had said and insisted
that he had not supported the demolition of the Babri Masjid.
At the same time he reiterated what he said in the morning, that
``the demand for the building of a Ram temple was the expression
of nationalist feelings. (Mandir ka nirman rashtriya bhawna ka
prakatikaran hai).'' What is of significance is how the temple
should be constructed, he added. (``Mandir kis tarah banaya jaye
yeh mahatvapoorna hai'').
The brief clarification was also made informally, while talking
to reporters at a function at Rashtrapati Bhavan this evening.
