Emphatic win for Hyderabad

CHENNAI, DEC. 6. Karnataka slipped badly to provide victory on a platter to Hyderabad in the Subbiah Pillai Trophy one-day cricket tournament at the MAC stadium here on Wednesday.

Skittling out Karnataka for 142 in 41.4 overs, Hyderabad went about leisurely and completed an eight-wicket win with 19.1 overs to spare. This was Hyderabad's second win, having beaten Andhra on Tuesday.

Mithun Beerala's exit put an early brake on Karnataka's progress and then the wily left-arm spinner Venkatapathi Raju came on to torment its batsmen. Raju helped himself to four wickets. With Daniel Manohar (40, 5 x 4) and Nanda Kishore coming good (62 not out, 4 x 4), Hyderabad could afford the casual approach of V.V.S. Laxman and yet spare a lot in the end.
