Court direction to IG on security to actor

By Our Legal Correspondent

HYDERABAD, DEC. 7. A Division Bench of the A.P. High Court, comprising Mr. Justice B.S.A. Swamy, and Mr. Justice E. Dharma Rao, on Thursday directed the Inspector-General of Police (Intelligence), to consider whether to provide police protection to Dr. Mohan Babu, former Rajya Sabha member and cine actor, without reference to the criminal case registered against him.

The Bench set aside the order of the Superintendent of Police, Chittoor, refusing security cover to the cine actor and issued the above direction.

The Bench was passing these orders in a writ petition filed by Dr. Mohan Babu complaining to the court that there was threat to his life and the police were not giving protection to him. The petitioner said that the Chief Minister was inimically disposed towards him and there was a threat from a former Cabinet Minister. He said that there were three attempts on his life. He lamented that the authorities had withdrawn security cover.
