Aarthie to play in Europe

CHENNAI, DEC. 7. Former World under-18 champion Aarthie Ramaswamy is to play in a series of four international competitions in three countries in this winter season.

She is leaving Chennai on Saturday for England where she will play in the Viking chess festival at York from December 13-22. From there she will travel to Sweden to play in the 30th Rilton Cup at Stockholm from December 27 to January 5, 2001. From there she moves to southern Europe to play the traditional twin tournaments of Anibal Open at Linares and at Ubeda in Spain.

Aarthie said she is sponsored by Wipro and these events offer a minimum men's International Master norm which is one grade higher than the women's Grandmaster title. Aarthie is looking for the WGM title norm from these tournaments. India has one WGM in Vijayalakshmi Subbaraman, who is also from Chennai.
