Film Review: En Sakhiyae

A STORY of rape and revenge once again. A theme which had been tried untiringly in several films and had been put in the backburner for some time, has been resurrected, dusted and presented, of course, with a few significant changes.

Generally it is the hero who seeks justice in a bloodstained manner. But in ``En Sakhiyae'' it is the heroine who is the cold blooded killer.

In ``Baazigar'' style, Sakhi (Divya) falls in love with Raja (Prabhusekar), kills him and then sets her eyes on his brother Sunil (Devaraj) to make him her next victim.

This bloodthirstiness arises out of the injustice meted out by the boys' father (K. Rajan) to the widowed mother of Sakhi.

Written and directed by Raviraja, L.V. Productions' ``En Sakhiyae'' has new faces playing principal characters.

And all of them have made a sincere attempt. Music by Pradeep Ravi is too loud. Ganesh Acharya's choreography is lively and has a youthful swing to it.

``En Sakhiyae'' lacks cohesion. The reactions of the artistes in most of the scenes end suddenly, come back in a disjointed manner as close-ups and stop again. So they seem confusing and disoriented. And the continuity of the scenes suffer. Inexperience shows. The costumes are absolutely garish.

If the father had just allowed Raja's friend to talk when he wishes to warn him about Sakhi, or later, when Sunil begins to suspect that his brother's death could be murder, things could have been resolved in a sensible way. But no, he comes to his own conclusions at crucial points.

Will not a globe-trotting, successful businessman be more rational and clever? Those who die at the hands of Sakhi, invariably call up and ask Sunil to come to a godforsaken place to tell him the truth. It would have been more logical for them to have given the information over the phone. Sakhi, predictably goes there and kills them. She leaves a trail of gaping evidences for the police to slap murder charges on her, but religiously the police does not take up even one. Raja's friend telling Sakhi everything about the murder mistaking her for Sunil, is rather ridiculous.

The fact that such a production has been made possible in record time with a very low budget could be the saving grace of ``En Sakhiyae''.
