Vajpayee 'communalising atmosphere', say allies
Several allies and supporting parties of the
Vajpayee government - the Telugu Desam, the Trinamool Congress
and the Indian National Lok Dal - today virtually charged the
Prime Minister with ``communalising the atmosphere'' by his
statements on the Ram temple issue over the last two days.
All-party meet fails to break deadlock
After a nearly two-hour heated discussion
among party leaders at a meeting called by the Lok Sabha Speaker,
Mr G.M.C.Balayogi, this afternoon, there was no resolution in
sight of the deadlock that has paralysed Parliament for five
days.
Ceasefire is forward-looking 'new' idea, says India
India today responded to Pakistan's call for
ideas to resolve the Kashmir issue by pointing out that the
unilateral ceasefire was a positive and forward-looking ``new''
idea.
Pak. 'flexible' on proposals
The Pakistan Foreign Minister, Mr. Abdul
Sattar, has again indicated that Pakistan was `flexible' on
details of the proposals it had made on December 2.
Anxious wait for Gore, Bush
The Bush and Gore campaigns, on Friday
morning, were anxiously awaiting the decisions of the courts in
Florida which would hopefully help determine the next President
of the United States.
Tyre burst
A Jet Airways flight (No. 433) from Mumbai
made a heavy landing at Bajpe airport near here today following a
tyre burst in the nose section. None of the passengers was
injured. The plane's undercarriage suffered some damage.
Li Peng coming
Former Chinese Premier and current chairman of
the China's Parliament, Mr. Li Peng, will visit India next month.
A senior Foreign Ministry official said here today ``Chairman Li
will visit India sometime during the middle of January and both
sides are consulting each other on the specific dates.''
IED blast
A civilian was killed and his son seriously
injured when an improvised explosive device (IED) went off at
Gohlan in Uri sector of Baramulla district in north Kashmir
today.
TDP demand on rice export conceded
The Centre today decided to permit export of
20 lakh tonnes of rice from the stocks held by the Food
Corporation of India (FCI) to ease pressure on storage space and
to facilitate fresh stocks of rice in the current `kharif'
season.

A crucial meeting of the Telugu Desam
parliamentary party has been convened here tomorrow, to take
stock of the situation in the wake of the Prime Minister, Mr.
Atal Behari Vajpayee's statement on Ayodhya, and the Centre's
refusal to come to the aid of the State's farmers through stepped
up procurement of foodgrains.
More forces for Assam
A high-level meeting, chaired by the Union
Home Minister, Mr. L.K. Advani, reviewed the law and order
situation in Assam following the killing of 28 non-Assamese in
the State on Thursday.
