Rs. 800 cr. E.U. grant for education
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI, DEC. 8. The European Union (E.U.) will provide Rs. 800
crores for a primary education programme to be launched in the
country next year. It will also grant about Rs. 150 crores for
upgrading facilities at airports. The E.U. Ambassador, Mr. Michel
Caillouet, said an agreement to the effect would be signed during
the visit of the E.U. External Relations Commissioner, Mr. Chris
Patten, to India in January.
The Ambassador said the Indo-E.U. round-table would be launched
during Mr. Patten's visit as a follow-up to the first ever Indo-
E.U. summit in Lisbon. The round table, comprising experts from
various sectors from both sides, would function as a think-tank
to improve bilateral relations. It would meet once in six months
and submit its recommendations to the Prime Minister.
