BJP trying to divert attention: Rao

AHMEDABAD, DEC. 9. The BJP was raking up the Ayodhya issue to divert people's attention from the NDA Government's ``failure'' on other fronts, according to former Prime Minister, Mr. P.V. Narasimha Rao, here.

``The BJP was raising the Ayodhya controversy whenever it was cornered over other important matters,'' Mr. Rao was quoted as saying in a statement issued by former Gujarat Chief Minister, Mr. Chhabildas Mehta, today.

Mr. Rao deliberated on various national issues during his meeting with Mr. Mehta and former Karnataka Chief Minister, Mr. Veerappa Moily. The leaders had come to Mr. Mehta's residence to attend a function, the statement said.

The meeting dwelled upon the effects of liberalisation policy, Mr. Mehta added.

Mr. Rao also stressed the need for the entry of youth in politics.

`PM's views personal'

The Haryana Chief Minister, Mr. Om Parkash Chautala, whose Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) is a partner in the NDA, today said in Bhiwani that the views expressed by the Prime Minister, Mr. A.B. Vajpayee, on the construction of a Ram temple at Ayodhya were ``personal''.

He told reporters here that the Ayodhya issue was now pending before court and its verdict should be honoured. Temple construction was not on the agenda of the INLD, which had respect for all religions, Mr. Chautala added.
