Internet connectivity without telephone
By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD, DEC. 9. For the first time in the city, a 24-hour
internet connectivity without the hassles of having a telephone
or a modem is being launched by Mac Info. The services will be
launched by the Chief Minister, Mr.N.Chandrababu Naidu, here on
December 13.
Announcing this at a press conference here on Saturday,
Mr.N.V.Subba Rao, Managing Director, said they would be offering
high speed and economical access to the internet through their
`MAN technology'.
The company had already laid cables across 60 km in the twin
cities, covering, among others, Banjara Hills, Somajiguda,
Ameerpet, parts of Secunderabad and the BHEL township. It planned
to lay cables over another 100 km in the very first year. It had
also plans to start similar services in Vizag and Vijayawada. Mac
Info had already invested Rs.3 crores to create the
infrastructure and other facilities in Hyderabad.
Even before launch, it had enrolled about 300 in the city and
2,000 in the BHEL township. Personal computer population in twin
cities was around 1.40 lakhs, according to their estimates, and
they were confident of bagging business from a sizeable chunk of
them. It would charge Rs.5,000 as installation charges, and a
monthly rent of Rs.1,200 for unlimited access.
Mr. Rao said Mac Info would also publish books online in Telugu.
`Oke okkadu', the biography of the late N.T.Rama Rao, written by
Mr.I.Venkat Rao, Editor of Andhra Jyothi, would be their first
publication online.
