Minister lauds students of Palkalaikoodam

PONDICHERRY, DEC. 9. The Pondicherry Tourism and Education
Minister, Mr. N. Rangaswamy, lauded the proficiency of students
and staff of the Bharathiar Palkalaikoodam functioning under the
auspices of the Pondicherry Education Department at Ariankuppam
in various competitions held within and outside Pondicherry.
The Palkalaikoodam, a multi-disciplinary centre preparing
students in fine arts, performing arts, sculpture and other
delicate disciplines was started here in memory of poet
Subramania Bharathiar when his birth centenary was celebrated.
A student of the institution, Shanmugham, bagged the first prize
of Rs. 10,000 at the all India art competition conducted by a
company in November. The Tamil Nadu HR & CE Minister, Mr. Tamizh
Kudimagan, had presented the cash award to the student.Three of
the 10 best artists adjudged by the Art Society of Pondicherry
were from the Palkalaikoodam and they were presented a cash award
of Rs. 1,000 each. The prize winners belonging to the
Palkalaikoodam were Elumalai, Ramesh and Shanmugham.
The competition held to draw paintings on creation of awareness
about AIDS also brought to the fore the proficiency of the
students of this institution and Elumalai, Sakthivel and
Tilakaraj emerged the first three prize winners.
Ms. Vineswari bagged the third prize and Soosairaj was presented
consolation prize in a competition conducted by the Pondicherry
Cooperatives Department on the occasion of the Cooperative Week
celebrations in Pondicherry.
Miss Muthulakshmi bagged the first prize followed by Miss
Gayathri and Miss Sambanna as the next two rank holders in the
competition conducted by the Arunagirinathar Tirupugazh Mandram
and they were presented cash awards.
The students of the institution were also commended for their
performance in an AIR programme.
