Orissa rehabilitation steps satisfy Centre
By Our Staff Reporter
BHUBANESWAR, DEC. 9. The Union Defence Minister, Mr. George
Fernandes, has expressed satisfaction over the reconstruction and
rehabilitation work done by the Orissa Government in the coastal
districts which were badly hit by the super-cyclone last year.
Mr. Fernandes, who attended a review meeting as chairman of the
Orissa Cyclone Reconstruction Authority (OCRA) formed by the
Centre at the State Secretariat here this afternoon, said that he
was pleased with the work done by the Orissa Government.
``Magnificent work has been done by the State Government,'' he
observed.
On the tardy progress in building houses for the homeless cyclone
survivors, Mr. Fernandes said that construction work had been
delayed due to the monsoon, but there will be considerable change
in the situation before the advent of the next monsoon.
The review meeting was attended by the Chief Minister, Mr. Naveen
Patnaik, the Revenue Minister, Mr. Biswabhushan Harichandan, and
senior officials of the Government involved in the rehabilitation
and reconstruction work.
